BACKGROUND
Ellen
Langley is a writer and communications consultant based in Olympia, Washington.
She graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with an English degree
and a couple of summers of newspaper reporting under her belt.
Ellen got her start in the Northwest doing marketing
and public relations for several Seattle arts organizations: Seattle
Repertory Theatre, Seattle
Children’s Theatre, Northwest Chamber Orchestra and Seattle International
Fringe Theatre Festival.
She got a crash course in for-profit promotions during
her tenure with Firmani & Associates, one of Seattle’s top integrated marketing
communications and public relations firms. There she designed and managed
media relations, public affairs and marketing campaigns for clients in
health care, arts & entertainment, law, technology, construction
and professional services.
In 1999 Ellen relocated to Washington’s capitol city to join the
state’s technology agency. There she promoted more than 100 technology
services that the organization manages and sells to state agencies, cities,
counties, tribes and educational institutions. She worked closely with
the governor’s office to publicize Washington’s national
leadership and pace-setting use of technology in public service.
A member of the International Association of Business
Communicators (IABC), Ellen is a Gold Quill award winner and held a seat
on the
Seattle chapter’s
board.
After the birth of her son in 2003, Ellen decided
to become her own boss. She’s having the time of her life.
