BACKGROUND

Ellen Langley is a writer and communications consultant based in Olympia, Washington. She graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with an English degree and a couple of summers of newspaper reporting under her belt.

Ellen got her start in the Northwest doing marketing and public relations for several Seattle arts organizations: Seattle Repertory Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Northwest Chamber Orchestra and Seattle International Fringe Theatre Festival.

She got a crash course in for-profit promotions during her tenure with Firmani & Associates, one of Seattle’s top integrated marketing communications and public relations firms. There she designed and managed media relations, public affairs and marketing campaigns for clients in health care, arts & entertainment, law, technology, construction and professional services.

In 1999 Ellen relocated to Washington’s capitol city to join the state’s technology agency. There she promoted more than 100 technology services that the organization manages and sells to state agencies, cities, counties, tribes and educational institutions. She worked closely with the governor’s office to publicize Washington’s national leadership and pace-setting use of technology in public service.

A member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Ellen is a Gold Quill award winner and held a seat on the Seattle chapter’s board.

After the birth of her son in 2003, Ellen decided to become her own boss. She’s having the time of her life.
